Counselor Besties started because being a School Counselor has its challenges—and doing it alone makes it harder than it needs to be.
Barb and Jess spent over a decade working together as high school counselors, getting through their days by checking in with each other and asking the same question over and over: What are we doing? Sometimes it was about the big picture—the system, the policies, the "directives", the constant shifting expectations. Sometimes it was the small stuff—a meeting that went sideways, an email that made no sense, a task added for the fifth time that week. Often, it was both big and small.
In each other, they found that person you could glance at in a meeting and know exactly what the other was thinking. Someone they could trust—who would listen, offer honest feedback, help organize the chaos, build on an idea, and make it better. Together, they were stronger, clearer, and more effective than either of them could have been alone.
Over time, it became clear how rare—and how necessary—that kind of partnership is. Not every counselor has a built-in bestie down the hall. Counselor Besties exists as a support, for those who do, and especially for those who don’t.
We’ve created a small collection of digital resources and favorites designed to support you through hard days and long weeks.
